  • Key Stage 2 Sports Day

    Fri 14 Jul 2017

Once again, Eagles were the winners of our Key Stage 2 Sports Day, but this year it couldn't have been closer! Throughout the event, the lead went from Eagles to Kestrels and back again. It was the last event, the Year 6 4x100m relay that proved decisive and the Eagles won by just 4 points overall!

At the end of the morning, the Athletics Cup was presented by Miss O’Donnell – from PRUS - to the Eagles House Captains. Sports Cups were also be awarded to the Year 6 boy and girl who have made significant contributions to sport at St. John’s. This year's winners were Charlie C-F and Mabel D.  Cups for the Most Improved boy and girl were also presented and these were awarded to George F and Rebecca B.

Congratulations to all the children who took part in the event and many thanks to all those who came to support them.

Thanks to all staff who helped with the organisation on the day and to Freya H for taking the photographs below.

  • Reception Trip - College Lake

Fri 14 Jul 2017 Mrs Crook

    Reception Trip to College Lake

We have been doing Teddy Bears as our topic this term and the trip to College lake linked into this with the theme being Teddy Bears Picnic.

On Wednesday a letter was delivered to the Reception children from Edward Bear at College Lake. He told them to bring their own bears with them on the trip and he wanted them to find out about the code word SWAF!

The children came to school very excited about the trip and all with their bears. We arrived at college lake at 10am and went to leave our bears and picnics in special blue tubs.

We then went to the story barn for a story and to hear about the plan for the day.

We were split into two groups and all went on a sensory walk. The children got to smell lots of different leaves, had to find colours on the walk to match their broken bits of rainbow and even conduct the sounds they could hear in a nature concert!

It was then back for a biscuit and some raisins before taking part in a team activity where they got to learn what SWAF means! Shelter, Water, Air and Food! They dressed up as bears and trees and played some games which they loved and even got to see the large College Lake.

We went to find our lunch in the special blue tubs and found that they had all gone and only a note from Edward bear was left, telling the children that he had gone on an adventure with their bears and they had to follow the bear footsteps to find their bears and their lunches! The children loved this and at the end of the trail we found a lovely teddy bears picnic with picnic blankets and their bears all in the trees along with their lunches.

After lunch we went to the woodland theatre where they talked about their day and then went into the woods to build shelters for their bears!

Sadly, that was the end of the day but it really was a very happy day. The children loved it, were very well behaved and a really special time was had by us all. One of the children even got upset as he didn’t want to come home!

  • Puzzle Club

Fri 14 Jul 2017 Mrs Clark
This year we have been able to offer a lunch time Puzzle Club to the children in our military families. It has been great to see the children mixing with other Year groups and forming firm friendships. Many thanks to Mrs Davies and Mrs Jones for their fantastic support.

A fantastic evening was enjoyed by parents, staff and friends of St Johns, at the fabulous Summer Ball on Saturday.

Many thanks to the members of the PA who worked so hard to make this event such a great success. The money raised will help to improve facilities for the children and provide additional lessons in food technology and cookery.

Thanks to everyone who supported or sponsored this event.

  • Princes Risborough Gym and Dance Festival

    Fri 07 Jul 2017

St John's was well represented at this year's festival, with three groups from the school performing at the show. Our Rise and Shine group from KS1, performed a Pirates of the Caribbean themed dance. They had practised their routine with Miss Henley and, more recently, with Mrs Clark and gave a very entertaining performance. Our second group was from Gym Club, who combined gymnastics and contemporary dance in a dramatic routine. The girls, who choreographed the routine themselves (with a little direction from Mrs Rodbourne) absolutely loved performing this and produced a perfect performance. Our final group was from our early morning dance club run by Natalie Jane. Their African inspired dance was full of energy and superbly executed. The fantastic costumes also enhanced the performance.

Many thanks to the staff who have worked with the girls and to all parents and staff who supported at rehearsals and evening performances.
