  • English Football League Cup

    Fri 30 Nov 2018

St.John's took part in the EFL cup on Thursday at Flackwell Heath where the winning teams from all the regions get the opportunity to play at Wembley. The first match was against St.Jospeh's where we won 2-1 with goals from Sam and Jack. The second match was against Denham Green where Ronnie scored a hat-trick as well as goals from Jack, Sam and Raphie resulting in a 6-0 victory. The final match of the first round, was against St.Pauls which we also won 1-0 with another goal from Raphie.

These results meant that we topped our group and then went on to play Dedworth and Gerrards Cross in the next round. Unfortunately, we lost both of these matches and finished 3rd on the day. A huge well done to all of the boys who played and represented St.John's. You were all an asset to the school. Thank you to Mr Knight and Mr Buckthorpe for helping coach the boys on the day as well as all the parents for their help with transport.

On Wednesday afternoon Year 6 football teams played against St Teresa School in very wet and windy conditions. The first match was a hard fought battle, where the players demonstrated great team work and battled hard but unfortunately couldn't find the winning goals. The second match was full of goals, with St.John's winning 8-0. Well done to all the players who represented the school and a huge thank you to the parents for their help with the transport.
  • Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby

    Tue 20 Nov 2018

On a very cold and damp Tuesday afternoon, Year 5 and 6 tag rugby team took part in a tag rugby tournament at Princes Risborough Upper School against 5 other local schools. Both teams played extremely well and demonstrated great team work, application of skills and sportsmanship. The results of the previous matches meant that the final standings would be decided between our two teams, which Year 5 won. This resulted in Year 5 finishing 2nd and Year 6 finishing 3rd. Well done to all the children who played and a huge thank you to the parents who helped with transport and who stayed to support the teams.

  • Year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby

  • Mrs Evans' Birthday

    Tue 13 Nov 2018

Several months ago, Mrs Evans made arrangements with Mrs Grimsey for the whole school to watch a performance of Pinocchio  by Image Theatre. In preparation for this, Mrs Evans provided the teachers with copies of the book, so that children could be familiarised with the story before the event.

On Tuesday we all enjoyed the performance with Mrs Evans and some invited guests. The production ended with a special 'Pinocchio' song with words by Mrs Evans and also the singing of 'Happy Birthday'. After school, there was a tea party to celebrate with Mrs Evans, her special guests, staff, members of the Pupil Council  and some of the children she has regularly worked with. Refreshments were kindly provided and served by the Parents' Association, including a special 90th Birthday Cake. Two books of birthday messages, from the children, were presented by Ollie and Fable (Chair and Vice Chair of the Pupil Council) something which delighted Mrs Evans.

Mrs Evans loved her celebration and will be back in school shortly to speak to the children.

Thank you to everyone who made the event a great success.

  • Theme Week Exhibition

    Mon 12 Nov 2018

On Monday afternoon, we welcomed parents, carers and members of the community to our Theme Week Exhibition. Everyone had the opportunity to view some of the fantastic work created during the week. Members of the Governing Body and the Chief Executive of the ODBST, also attended.

There was a wide range of work on display showing some of the opportunities the children had received during the week.

Many of our visitors commented on the importance of educating our children about the events of the past and the range of work produced. The children's work demonstrated the understanding they had of our theme of Peace and  reflected their thoughts and feelings.

Thank you to all those who attended and to children and staff for providing some thought provoking work.

  • St John’s Church - Remembrance Sunday Service

Sun 11 Nov 2018 Mrs Rodbourne

On Sunday, children, their parents and staff from school, joined the congregation of St John’s Church at their Service of Remembrance. Our children sang ‘Let there be Peace’ and shared some of their poems, written in theme week. The children all conducted themselves very well and received many compliments from members of the congregation.

Many thanks to Mrs Insley who led our choir; to those parents who brought their children to church and to Mrs Thomas who organised the children.

  • Our Service of Remembrance

    Fri 09 Nov 2018
On Friday, the whole school attended our Service of Remembrance, at St John's Church. Led by Rev Tony, the service featured some of the work from our Peace Theme Week, including poems and prayers written by the children. We were pleased to welcome Squadron Leader Jones, from RAF High Wycombe, who read 'In Flanders' Fields'. He then joined the KS 1 children in the laying of poppy wreaths. The service featured the playing of the last post, by Mr Insley and some wonderful singing from the children of 'A Wish for Peace', led by Mrs Insley. Our Year 6 children also 'planted' memorial crosses, to those who died during World War 1.  Many thanks to all who contributed to this lovely service and to those parents who joined us on this occasion.
  • Peace Theme Week

    Wed 07 Nov 2018

Across the school this week, the children have been completing work that has focused on our school value of peace as well as making links to mark the centenary of the end of The First World War. Our photographs show some of the fantastic work that has been going on. Children have had opportunities to work in different mediums to produce a variety of artwork and models. Time has been spent finding out more about the events surrounding the end of the First World War and exploring the meaning of peace. Children have been able to express their thought and ideas through their writing and a selection of their poems and prayers will form part of our Remembrance Service.

The children will be show casing their work in the school hall on Monday 12th from 2.45pm.Everyone is welcome to view the work.
