  • Prom Praise - The Royal Albert Hall

    Sat 23 Mar 2019

On Tuesday Evening Children from Years 5 and 6 took part in a stunning Prom Praise performance at The Royal Albert Hall. The songs for the performance had been practised during music lessons with Mrs Insley and the children arrived in the early afternoon ready for the rehearsal. It was at this stage that the children could see how the songs fitted in to the whole performance which told the story of Moses and the Exodus. In addition to practising songs and actions, there was the manipulation of a rubber dingy (which overturned, throwing out the baby Moses in the rehearsal!), blow up crocodiles and a turtle which represented the basket carrying the baby Moses down the River Nile!  Everyone was given a piece of white card which was used, together with coloured lighting effects, to represent the Red Sea. The performance also included a Gospel Choir, dancers and singers. A full orchestra accompanied the singing, together with the famous Royal Albert Hall organ.

After eating tea, the children began to eagerly look out for parents who were attending the event and soon we were ready to start.

The whole performance was an amazing experience and all ran smoothly - even the dingy managed not to capsize during the actual performance. St John's children sang well and were a credit to the school.

Many thanks to the staff who accompanied the children and to parents who have supported with the learning of the songs in preparation for the event. Many parents also attended the concert and commented to staff about the experience:

"This was an amazing experience for the children. It was wonderful for them to have the opportunity to perform at such an iconic venue. There was such a positive atmosphere, and it was fabulous to hear so many children singing together with an orchestra. Through songs, dance and mime it brought the story of the Exodus alive, helping the children experience the power and glory of God. An unforgettable and uplifting experience!"

    -- Mrs C Gillett

"I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all of you for the wonderful opportunity Years 5 & 6 had last Tuesday at the Royal Albert Hall. It must have meant a lot of extra work and organisation for you all so thank you again!"

  • Shrove Tuesday - Pancake Races

    Tue 05 Mar 2019

Pancake Racing has become a tradition at St John's now that the event no longer takes place in the village. Organised by Mrs Insley, the whole school took part in the event on Tuesday afternoon. The children ran in their house teams and each year group had their own race. Points were awarded and at the end of the competition the winning house was Kestrels. The final race was between teams from the staff, governors and invited teams from the local community representing the Lacey Green Singers and the Horticultural Society.

This was a really enjoyable event for everyone involved and we would like to thank all those who participated from the community.

  • TLC - Spring Clean

    Sat 09 Feb 2019

A huge thank you to all the parents and staff who came to support our Spring Clean on Saturday. The focus was on the reception areas and corridors but there was also time to work on the hall. The staff room and workroom were also cleared and thoroughly cleaned. One of our governors had a very productive morning with a power washer and we now have some very clean hall chairs.

Outside, a great deal was achieved in Hogan’s Hideaway and in the Millennium Garden. Our thanks goes to Mr & Mrs  Bolton, Alex Stallwood and Callum Marfleet for their work.

  • Stowe School Cross Country

    Wed 06 Feb 2019

On Wednesday morning, 11 cross country runners from Years 5 and 6 took part in the Bucks Schools Cross Country Championships at Stowe School. A challenging 1800m course was undertaken with great enthusiasm and commitment, with both races proving to be highly competitive, with over 129 runners in the girls race and 153 in the boys race.

Special congratulations must go to both Ronnie and Raphie, who were both selected to represent Bucks Swans at the County Cross Country races later in the year.

  • Music Pavilion

    Thu 31 Jan 2019

Members of Years 5/6 were very excited to try out the newly finished music pavilion this afternoon.  It was light and warm, and the children were intrigued by the clever storage solutions, and road tested the floor and excellent acoustics with an enthusiastic rendition of 'Don't put yer muck in our dustbin', accompanying themselves with ukuleles and body percussion.  They had some great suggestions for future improvements - including bringing in cushions for the benches.  Watch this space!

We are enormously grateful to the many people who have supported this ambitious project.

  • Key Stage 1 Christmas Performances

    Thu 06 Dec 2018

This year’s performance of The Inn-Spectors gave a new twist to the traditional  story of the Nativity. Everyone played their part fantastically and there were some amazing solo singers.

We were pleased to welcome children and staff from Windmills Pre School, who came across to see the performance.

Many thanks to all those staff and parents who helped with the production.

  • Village Christmas Carol Concert

Sun 02 Dec 2018 Mrs Insley
30 children from Years 3 and 4 charmed a packed village hall with their beautiful singing, as they joined forces with the Lacey Green Singers to perform a programme of Christmas carols and songs on Sunday evening. We have received many compliments about the children’s singing, their enthusiasm and their behaviour. They were a credit to you and to the school. Thank you for your support
  • English Football League Cup

    Fri 30 Nov 2018

St.John's took part in the EFL cup on Thursday at Flackwell Heath where the winning teams from all the regions get the opportunity to play at Wembley. The first match was against St.Jospeh's where we won 2-1 with goals from Sam and Jack. The second match was against Denham Green where Ronnie scored a hat-trick as well as goals from Jack, Sam and Raphie resulting in a 6-0 victory. The final match of the first round, was against St.Pauls which we also won 1-0 with another goal from Raphie.

These results meant that we topped our group and then went on to play Dedworth and Gerrards Cross in the next round. Unfortunately, we lost both of these matches and finished 3rd on the day. A huge well done to all of the boys who played and represented St.John's. You were all an asset to the school. Thank you to Mr Knight and Mr Buckthorpe for helping coach the boys on the day as well as all the parents for their help with transport.

  • Year 6 Football Match

    Fri 30 Nov 2018
On Wednesday afternoon Year 6 football teams played against St Teresa School in very wet and windy conditions. The first match was a hard fought battle, where the players demonstrated great team work and battled hard but unfortunately couldn't find the winning goals. The second match was full of goals, with St.John's winning 8-0. Well done to all the players who represented the school and a huge thank you to the parents for their help with the transport.
