Football Match vs West Wycombe School

Written by Jonny B (Year 6)

On the 27th June 2017, our YR 5 and 6 football teams played a match against West Wycombe School on the school field. There were mixed results with the YR 5 team losing 1-0 but the YR 6 team winning 3-2. They were very close fought games with the YR 5s conceding early on. Not much happened after that until a foul was committed by a West Wycombe player in a position that was arguably inside the box. A free-kick was given just outside the box which was set back to James D who hit the wall. There were few chances for either side but I think many would agree that a draw would have been the fair result.

In the YR 6 match it was almost the opposite. It was a scrappy match with a lot of chances but none of the first half chances were taken, meaning the half time score was 0-0. In the second half, we managed to find the breakthrough. Charlie CF found himself in space with the ball and ran at the defence. He took a touch around the defender and his deflected shot went into the bottom corner of the net. After that, we scored another 2 goals; another 1 from Charlie and a magnificent team goal that was finished off by Ethan. We conceded 2 late goals but in the end it didn’t matter as we still managed to win the match.

All in all, it was a successful and enjoyable fixture for both teams.

Also, a quick thank you to Miss Moulder and Hazel Buckthorpe for organising the match and to Cliff Kemp and Duncan Collet-Fenson for coaching us every fortnight.
