St John’s Church of England Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. In accordance with our responsibilities under section 175/157 of the Education Act 2002, and Keeping Children Safe in Education 2020, we have Designated Safeguarding Leads for Child Protection. All staff and governors receive regular Safeguarding and Prevent training.
To promote a safe and secure environment, all staff and volunteers are checked in compliance with safer recruitment procedures. We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare. This includes making a referral to Social Care.

ODBST & Safeguarding
The ODBST strategically manages safeguarding and has an Executive Safeguarding Lead (ESL). This person has the responsibility for the leadership of policy and practice in all ODBST schools and undertakes regular auditing of practice. Where there are safeguarding concerns around adults, this is managed by the ESL alongside ODBST HR partners and the LADO from the Local Authority. The case management, interventions and support for children and families is school led and the responsibility of school leaders who are expected to work with local authority partners. Cases are recorded on CPOMS which is managed at school level with strategic overview from the ESL. Safeguarding is reported on at school level to individual LGBs and at Trust level to Trustees who receive a termly report. The ESL meets directly with the Chair of Trustees who also holds a strategic safeguarding role.
The ODBST Executive Safeguarding Lead (ESL) is Jan Martin
