Year 6 District Football - Group stages

Match One: St John’s v Bledlow Ridge

Hello, I’m Louis and here I am giving a match report on the group stages on Tuesday the 5th October 2021. St Johns’ opening match against Bledlow Ridge could probably be called the tensest match of the afternoon. Bledlow had a stubborn defence and were not the easiest team to play.

Early in the match, St John’s made an early attack with me, down the left wing. This proved to go on until the Bledlow defence put the ball out for a corner. Edward ran to take it but it proved to have no effect as the opposition cleared their lines. Both teams had multiple clear-cut chances before a mistake from St John’s defenders sent Bledlow on the attack. A comfortable save from goalkeeper James followed and the ball was cleared once again.

The majority of St John’s attacking moves came down the left and right wings and the main threat at goal was Daniel. Jack proved a useful substitute late in the match.

Final score: Bledlow 0-0 St John’s.

Match Two: St John’s v Monks Risborough

This proved to be a slightly more relaxed game with St John’s dominating the possession in the first 5 minutes of the match. Then all of a sudden, Oliver and St John’s were on the attack. Oliver’s first effort was saved but the rebound was put away by Jack! St John’s 1-0 lead. GOALLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

Just as the supporters stopped to breathe, Jack was at it again, forming yet ANOTHER partnership down the line with Oliver. After lots of tiki taka style passing from the pair, Jack shot and the attempt was parried by the goalkeeper over the goal line. 2-0 to St John’s! GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!

Some substitutions were made by both teams after the 2nd goal went in and the score remained 2-0.

Final score: Monk’s Risborough 0-2 St John’s.

Game Three: St John’s v Princes Risborough Primary

A draw in this match would be enough for St John’s to reach the knockout stages of the competition. But they showed no mercy and almost instantly they were on the attack. It proved to lead to nothing but St John’s were not to be messed with for the remainder of the match. After all, they were unbeaten after two matches against difficult teams. Both teams had a few chances at the beginning of the game before St John’s were off down the left wing at the hosts’, Princes Risborough, defence again.

I spotted my team mates and I crossed the ball into the centre of the box. A goalmouth scramble followed, before central midfielder Daniel put away the loose ball into the back of the net securing a 1-0 lead. GOALLLLLL!!!!!!!

The rest of the match was mostly played in the middle third before an injury to one of Princes Risborough’s wingers delayed the end of the match. In the end, it would be victory for St John’s C of E Primary School. HOORAY!!

Final Score: St John’s 1-0 Princes Risborough

1 St John’s     7 Points

2 Bledlow Ridge 5 Points

3 Princes Risborough 3 Points

4 Monks Risborough 1 Point
