Year 5 Victorian Theme Day
Year 5 & 6 experienced a Victorian School Day as part of their Victorian Topic work. Children and staff arrived at school, dressed appropriately for the day, ready to experience a Victorian classroom. There were strict rules for the day; children had to stand up when a member of staff entered the room and address them appropriately; children were seen and not heard! Lessons included copperplate handwriting and calculating money - much trickier than the decimal system. At lunchtime everyone had brought in a packed lunch which would have been familiar to children in Victorian times - simple choices such as bread, cheese and an apple. During the afternoon, children played games that would have been enjoyed in the past such as Hopscotch, Skipping and Oranges and Lemons.
The day ended with 'The Great Exhibition' when children displayed some of the work they had made when studying Victorian inventions. Parents enjoyed viewing the work and the children also had the opportunity to see what others had made. Overall a really successful and enjoyable day.
