History - What was a Roman town like?
Today in History the children were placed in the role of spies from the native Britons who had heard about these fabulous towns and wanted to see if it was all true. They can’t visit though or they might be captured by the Romans. Around the hall were secreted 12 cards with the names of 12 separate buildings that the Roman towns would have had. When they had the buildings they needed to decide as a team, working collaboratively, where they should be drawn within the town walls. Lots of great teamwork and we now have a much better understanding of the layout of a Roman town.

This term in English we are looking at Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. Today we explored why fiction books have maps at the start and why they can be useful. We looked at Harley Hitch by Vashti Hardy, Malamander by Thomas Taylor and How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. We thought about how each map was interesting and useful. Our activity for the lesson was to work as a group to recreate the map of Kensuke's Kingdom. One child from each group would look at the map for one minute and then they would describe the map to the rest of their group who would then have to draw it. Lots of wonderful discussion and some great maps were created!
