Autumn 2 Spellings
In maths today we look at the ‘Six Numbered Squares’ investigation. In our pairs and small groups we worked systematically to try and solve the different challenges. We are looking forward to continuing this next week.
Coke and Mentos
Mentos and Coke Experiment 2.MOV
In science this week, we have been investigating reversible and irreversible changes and how new materials can be formed as a result. We conducted a 'Coke and Mentos Experiment' to see if any new materials are formed.
The Science Behind the Experiment
The mint sweets provide a surface for the gas in the cola to cling on to. The bubbles of gas get larger and as they are lighter than the cola liquid, they quickly shoot to the top of the bottle. This all happens very quickly and a fountain of cola and gas shoots up. There is no true chemical reaction in this experiment.
Our new science topic this half term is properties and changes of materials. We have tested different materials to see if they dissolve in liquid to form a solution as well as looking at different ways we can separate mixtures.
In English we are creating descriptions about rainforests. Today we went outside to listen to all the different sounds and sights to inspire our imagination.
In RE this term, we have been learning about saints; what they are, how you can become one as well as looking at the stories behind many of them. Today we learnt about Saint Stephen and acted out his story.
